Audio Mode
When it comes to Call of Duty it is vital to be able to hear footsteps as easily as possible. The headphones and home theater audio mixes typically have the best sound for hearing footsteps. Additionally, you want audio with good spatial sound so you can identify where sounds are coming from. This will help you know where enemies are.
Master Volume
The master volume controls all of the game volume at once. Although it can be tempting to use the master volume, we recommend adjusting game sound through your headset, mix amp, or PC settings instead.
Effects Volume
All the vital game sounds are controlled through the effects volume. Having the effects volume set to 100 will ensure footstep audio is heard as loud as possible.
Hit Marker Volume
The volume of your hit marker sounds is personal preference. However, having the volume set to 80 or higher is typically optimal. While hit marker sounds aren’t vital knowledge, it can still be a useful audio queue for when your shots are connecting.
Mono Audio
With mono audio turned on both sides of audio will be the same. This can make it hard to hear where players are coming. In almost all cases you will want to leave mono audio turned off.
Juggernaut Music
Being able to turn off juggernaut music is a great feature. Of course by having juggernaut music enabled you will be able to tell when the enemy team has one. If you find the juggernaut music too loud then we recommend turning this off. However, this is primarily personal preference.
Hit Marker Sound Effects
Another option that is personal preference is hit marker sound effects. This controls the sound of your hitmaker and doesn’t provide any advantage in-game. Simply use whichever option you like the sound of more.
Mute Game While Minimized
Although not necessary, enabling the mute game while minimized option does have it’s benefits. If you have tabbed out of Modern Warfare 2 it’s unlikely you want to hear the game audio. However, if you want to know when a game is starting then you may want to leave the option enabled.
Reduce Tinnitus Sound
While we recommend enabling the reduce tinnitus sound option, this may not be for everyone. With this feature enabled the sound of concussions and flashes will be duller, as opposed to their original counterpart.
Headset Software Settings
If you’re using a gaming headset to play Modern Warfare 2 then there may be software available for customizing the audio. Astro, SteelSeries, and Logitech headsets all have software to do such a thing.
SteelSeries Sonar
Additionally, if you are playing on PC then you can use SteelSeries Sonar. This software will allow you to customize the EQ on all audio, regardless of what headset or speaker you’re using. SteelSeries sonar comes with preset options which allow you can switch between to find the best audio settings for your listening device. Typically, the Warzone, Apex Legends, or FPS Footsteps preset is used.
