If you are experiencing an error where you can’t accept a Discord invite then it’s probably because the invite has expired. However, there are plenty of other reasons why you might be unable to join a Discord Server.
Use the Add a Server Feature
One option to fix the Discord invite not working issue is to use the Add a Server feature. You can find this feature on the left side of Discord, under the servers.
1. Copy the Discord invite link.
2. Click the Add a Server button.
3. Click the Join a Server button.
4. Paste the invite link into the box then click Join Server.
Use the Browser Version of Discord
Another worthwhile solution is to use the browser version of Discord to try and join the server. While this might not seem logical, if there is an issue with the Discord application then this may allow you to join the server. Additionally, you can try using the Add a Server button while on the browser.
Get a New Invite
A common reason why someone can’t join a Discord server is because the invite has expired. Discord invites typically expire after 7 days. However, this can be changed or even set to never expire. To fix the issue you will need to get a new invite link to the server. This can be created by someone in the Discord server that has the Create Invite permission.
Additionally, some invite links have a limit to how many people can join. Staff of a Discord server may limit how many people can join off an invite to reduce the risk of a Raid.
Check if the Server is Discoverable
Discord has an inbuilt discoverability page that allows you to search for servers in a specific niche. You can use this to find official brand servers or community servers for your favorite game. However, not all servers are discoverable.
You can search for a server by selecting the Explore Discoverable Servers button on the left side of Discord. This option is found under the servers list, right at the bottom, and looks like a compass. Once the Discover page is open you can search for a server by name.
Use a Different Browser
When you click on a Discord link it’s often in a browser or will open up your default browser. Instead, you can try using a different browser to accept the Discord invite. You can do this by copy & pasting the invite into the browser address bar.
Verify Your Discord Account
Another reason why you might be unable to join a Discord sever is because of the server’s verification requirement. In order to protect a server from raids and bots, Discord servers often set a verification requirement. This limits who can join the server.
The lowest requirement is for members to have verified their email address. However, you may also need your account to be older than 5 minutes old, be in the server for 10 minutes, or have a verified phone connected to your Discord account.
Server is Age Restricted
An often overlooked reason for the “can’t join Discord server” issue is that the server is age-restricted. If this is the case then you won’t be able to join the server unless you’re old enough to join. This is based on the age set on your Discord account.
