How to Fix Microphone Not Working in Roblox

If you’re having an issue where your microphone is not working in Roblox, then there are a few possible reasons. Fortunately, most solutions are fairly straight forward. Before starting you will want to make sure you have enabled voice chat in Roblox. Additionally, you will want to determine if the issue is just with Roblox, or if your microphone isn’t working in other applications as well. You can do this by trying to use your microphone on another application like Discord.

  1. Change your input device.
  2. Unmute your microphone in Roblox.
  3. Increase microphone volume.
  4. Stop applications from taking exclusive control of your microphone.
  5. Turn enable microphone off then back on.
  6. Change Microphone sample rate.
  7. Unmute your microphone on the device.
  8. Uninstall and reinstall Roblox.

Change Your Input Device in Roblox

One of the easier issues to fix is if your input device is set incorrectly. Your input device is your microphone or the device being used to put audio into voice chat. This can be changed while in an experience through the settings. Additionally, you can also change your output device, which is the device you hear game audio and voice chat through.

Unmute Your Microphone in Roblox

While in an experience you will see a microphone icon in the top left corner. This icon can be pressed to mute and unmute your microphone. If your microphone is muted then the icon will have a slash through it. However, if your microphone is unmuted then it will have green on it.

Increase Your Microphone Volume

You can control how loud your microphone volume is through the sound settings on your computer. In some cases your microphone may be muted or very quiet, preventing people from hearing you in Roblox. To fix this open the sound settings on your PC then select your microphone from under the Input heading. At the bottom of the Input settings you will see a volume slider. To ensure your microphone works in Roblox you will want to se the volume to at least 90.

Stop Applications From Taking Exclusive Control of Your Microphone

Although not necessarily a Roblox issue, sometimes your microphone might stop working due to another application taking exclusive control over it. While this issue is fairly rare, it does happen more than you might think. Fortunately, you can prevent any application from taking control of your microphone, without the need to determine which application is causing the issue.

1. Right-click on the speaker icon on your task bar, then select Sound Settings.

2. Locate the Advanced heading and click More sound settings. If you are on Windows 10 then you can open the sound control panel using the text on the right.

3. Switch to the Recording tab, then select your microphone.

    4. Open the Properties.

    5. Switch to the Advanced tab, then uncheck both Exclusive control options.

Turn Enable Microphone Off and Back On

You may also be able to fix your microphone by turning off the enable microphone option before turning it back on. Fortunately, this is quick and can be done through the Roblox application.

    1. Leave an experience if you’re in one, then select More from the side.

    2. Open the Settings, then select Privacy. This may be called Privacy & Content Maturity.

    3. Select Communication then Voice Chat.

    4. Turn off the Enable Microphone option, then turn it back on.

    Change Microphone Sample Rate

Another possible fix if your microphone isn’t working in Roblox is to change the sample rate for your microphone. Again, this can also be done through the sound control panel on your computer. You can find the options for this in the advanced tab once you have opened your microphone properties. To fix the issue you will need to set the sample rate to match your microphone.

You can look up your microphone to find the correct sample rate, or check the manual or box. If you set the sample rate incorrectly then your microphone may not work, or the quality will be bad.

    1. Open the Sound Settings then select More sound settings from the Advanced options.

    2. Switch to the Recording tab, and select your microphone.

    3. Open your microphone Properties.

    5. Switch to the Advanced tab, then set the Sample Rate to match your microphone.

Unmute Your Microphone on the Device

In some cases the issue may be simple, your microphone is muted. If you are using a headset microphone then there is often a mute button on the headset cord. This is typical on gaming headsets. Meanwhile, if you have a USB or XLR microphone then there may be a mute button on the device itself. To fix the issue you will need to make sure your microphone isn’t muted. Additionally, if your microphone has a volume control then be sure the volume is turned up.

    Uninstall and Reinstall Roblox

A final solution is to uninstall and reinstall Roblox. In some cases if voice chat isn’t working correctly in Roblox then reinstalling the game will solve the issue. However, as this can be a bit annoying it’s the last step that should usually be done. Especially as other solutions only take a few seconds to test.
