Neither the Logitech G502 or G Pro Wireless can double click out the box. However, it is common for double clicking to be possible once the mouse has been used and worn down.
The click speeds with the G502 or G Pro wireless tend to be slower than other mice when double clicking. Both mice are designed to try and prevent double clicking, as they have fairly high debounce times that can’t be adjusted. Most mice that are used for double clicking allow you to adjust the debounce time to achieve higher click speeds.
What is Double Clicking?
Double clicking is when a mouse button is pressed in a way to register multiple clicks at once.
When a mouse is referred to as being able to double click, it usually means the debounce time is adjustable. Lowering the debounce time on a mouse allows repetitive clicks to be registered faster. A low debounce time can also result in one click being registered as two.
Most mice don’t allow you to adjust the debounce time, to prevent causing issues. However, some gaming mice allow you to make changes through their supported software.
Why Double Click?
The primary purpose of double clicking is to increase click speed, or CPS. A high click speed can give a strong advantage in many games. Typically combat based games allow players with fast clicking capabilities to gain a significant advantage.
While there are better methods for increasing click speed, such as autoclickers, most games don’t allow it. Double clicking is a safer, and more accepted method for speeding up clicks.
A double click can also be used to speed up specific tasks outside of gaming. Performing any action that requires intensive clicking will benefit from the ability to double click.
Alternative for Double Clicking
Logitech mice don’t allow you to double click by lowering debounce time. However, there are alternative methods that can be used to increase click speed.
Using the Logitech G Hub software you can create a double click macro. A double click macro will allow for a single mouse click to register as two. A third click can also be added to increase speed or change function.
If you plan on using a double click macro for gaming, then it is important to ensure you’re not breaking any game rules.
How to Make a Double Click Macro with Logitech Mice / G Hub
Using the Logitech G Hub software you can create and assign macros to your mouse. A double click macro can be assigned to any button on your mouse, including the left click.
If you rebind a button function it will replace the original. It is recommended to always have at least one button bound with the primary click function.
1. On the G Hub dashboard, you will see all of your supported Logitech devices. Your mouse should also be shown here. Click on the mouse that you want to add the double click macro to. This will open all of the mouse settings and options.
2. Select the “Assignments” menu from the left side. The assignments menu can be used to remap buttons on your device.
3. Switch to the Macros tab. All of your G Hub macros will be listed on this panel.
4. Click the “Create New Macro” button, then name it.
5. Set the macro type to “No Repeat”.
6. Press the plus sign and choose system, mouse, then primary click.
7. Add a second primary click to your macro script.
7. Uncheck the “Use Standard Delays” setting. This will reveal the hidden delay event in your macro.
8. Click and drag the delay event so it is between both mouse click events.
9. Adjust the delay to suit your purpose. A lower delay will have the double click perform faster. We recommended using between 1 and 50 ms. Once you are happy with the new delay press the “Enter” key to confirm your changes.
10. Save the macro and you will be redirected to the assignments page.
11. The double click macro will now be located in the macros list. Click and drag it onto the mouse button you want to assign it to. You may be asked to confirm your change.
12. The macro can be edited at any time by double clicking on it in the macros list. This will reopen the macro editor. Reducing the delay can speed up the CPS. Alternatively adding another delay and primary click can also increase click speeds. Saving your edited macro will automatically update the script, even if it’s assigned to a mouse.
Final Thoughts
Double clicking is a great way to make intensive clicking easier, particularly when gaming. While the Logitech G502 and G Pro wireless don’t allow for traditional double clicking, you can still replicate the function using macros. Depending on your purpose the macro can replace the typical debounce method for double clicking. Using a macro can also add additional functionality and consistency to the mouse that you wouldn’t otherwise get from a lower debounce time.
