How to Get Twitch Predictions

Predictions are only available to Twitch Affiliates and Partners. Once your Twitch account has become an affiliate or partner the predictions feature will automatically be enabled.

Who Can Start a Prediction?

Twitch predictions can be started by the streamer or a moderator. Moderators and the streamer can both use the chat command to open the prediction interface.

How to Vote on a Prediction

You can vote on a prediction by clicking on your channel points in the chat menu and selecting the prediction. You can stake the default amount of channel points, or choose to predict with a custom amount. Selecting a custom amount will allow you to manually choose the number of points you wish to bet on the prediction.

Starting a Prediction on Mobile

Unfortunately, predictions can’t be started on mobile at this time. However, mobile users can still participate by predicting an outcome with channel points.

How to Choose a Prediction Outcome

Choosing an outcome will require you to bring up the prediction menu using the chat command “/prediction”. Outcomes can only be updated by a moderator or the streamer.

The manage prediction window will appear, allowing you to “Choose Outcome”. If submissions are still active then you will need to click “End Submissions” first.

Choose the correct outcome then click the “Complete Prediction” button at the bottom of the menu.

You may be asked to confirm the outcome. Checking the “Don’t show this again” box will prevent this window from showing in the future.

Refund Channel Points Spent on Twitch Predictions

Channel points can be refunded by deleting the prediction they were spent on. However, once an outcome has been confirmed the channel points will no longer be refundable.

1. Type “/prediction” in the chat and send the message to bring up the “Manage Prediction” menu.

2. Choose to delete the prediction.

3. Click “Delete & Refund Points”.

How Predictions Work

Predictions work by allowing users to bet their channel points on an outcome. Once the prediction has been completed the viewers that correctly predicted the outcome will receive channel points as a reward. The channel points rewarded are equal to the total points bet on the incorrect outcome. This total is divided between all of the viewers that predicted the correct outcome.

Quick Predictions

Recent predictions will show in the prediction menu. Selecting one of the options will instantly load the question and options used for that prediction. This allows you to quickly re-run a prediction, or create a similar one.

Can Moderators Vote on a Prediciton?

Moderators can vote on a Twitch prediction, however, they can’t finalize the outcome. This means that the streamer or another moderator will have to select the correct outcome. This is implemented to deter moderators from reporting incorrect results.

Conclusion

Predictions are a great way for streamers to engage with their viewers. Viewers that put their channel points on the line may feel more involved and rewarded when they predict correctly. As a bonus, predictions can also incentives more viewers to chat and feel involved in the discussion. This is largely due to the temporary badge that is added next to a user’s name once they have cast a prediction.
