The NVIDIA overlay allows you to record clips after they happen/ Although this is typically used for clipping gameplay, it can also be used to record your screen. To clip something you will be using the Instant Replay feature, or Shadowplay as it’s often referred to. Although Instant Replay is included in GeForce Experience, the new NVIDIA app has an updated version.

1. Press Alt + Z to open the NVIDIA overlay.

2. Select Instant Replay.

3. Turn off Instant Replay and select Configure video capture.

4. Set instant replay length to the length you want your clips to be.

5. Set Quality to Custom, Resolution to In-game, and Frame Rate to 60 FPS.

6. Set Bitrate to 30 for 1080p recordings, 40 for 1440p recordings, and 50 for 4K recordings.

7. Go back and turn on Instant Replay.

How Long Should Instant Replay Length Be?

Although the best Instant Replay length varies from person to person, there are some common durations. If you’re playing a round-based game, like Counter-Strike or Valorant, then 2 minutes is usually more than enough. However, you can always use 2 minutes 30 seconds to be sure.

If you’re playing a game where you might want longer clips, such as Warzone, then you can use 5 minutes. Of course, you will want to use what best suits the game and your PC. Using Instant Replay does require resources. Because of this, it’s usually best to use as short of a clip length as you can.

How to Change NVIDIA Clip Keyboard Shortcut

Although the NVIDIA overlay comes with useful keyboard shortcuts, you can change them at any point. This allows you to set up your own custom commands to clip your gameplay, or perform other functions. You may want to keep the default keyboard shortcuts if you have a macro pad, such as the Elgato Stream Deck. This prevents you from having to reset the shortcuts if you get a new PC or have to reinstall the NVIDIA app. However, correcting the issue wouldn’t take much time.

1. Open the NVIDIA Overlay (Alt + Z)

2. Select the gear icon to open the Settings.

3. Open the Shortcut controls.

4. Click the box next to the Save last {time} recorded option.

5. Press the new keyboard shortcut that you want to use, then close.

Can Instant Replay Record 120 FPS?

Instant replay allows you to record 120 FPS, however, 60 is typically enough. If you do choose to record with 120 FPS then you may want to increase the bit rate that you’re recording in. As you are recording more frames every second, your bitrate is being spread across more frames, reducing the quality.
